Instagram Plans to Remove the Total Number of Likes On Your Photos and Videos!

May 7, 2019

Instagram will test hiding the number of likes and views that photos and videos receive — a central aspect of its platform — to rein in competitive tendencies and make the experience a little “less pressurized.”

“We want your followers to focus on what you share, not how many likes your posts get. During this test, only the person who shares a post will see the total number of likes it gets.” That’s how Instagram  describes a seemingly small design change test with massive potential impact on users’ well-being.

The company will hide the number of likes on your photos and videos on the "Feeds" and "Profile" homepage.

According to the Instagram Story feature that allows an account holder to see the number of views, the account owner will still be able to monitor the number of likes, but followers will not be able to.

How will this affect the work of influencers, who depend on the number of likes to make money?
