Top 5 social media predictions for 2020

December 20, 2019

In the past couple of years, many changes occurred on social media. Tests have been carried out, bans have been introduced, regulations have changed, etc…

Awario Company conducted a study and came up with many social media predictions for 2020.

Here are 5 most important predictions:

1.    Social listening will increase in 2020:

In the past few years, more and more users reached out to brands and retailers on social media to ask about a certain product and discuss specifications. Talking to their customers helped retailers improve their products and services by 24%, and attracts 25% new clients. Social listening will surely keep increasing in 2020.

2.    Micro-influencers will become more effective in 2020:

No doubt that social media has still the most effect on users when it comes to choosing a brand. Today 74% of people still trust social media to make their purchase decision.

But the big change is that people started to trust the recommendations of family and friends over celebrity and endorsements. Which will help increase the role of micro-influencers.

3.    Live content domination in 2020:

With the presence of Facebook live, Instagram live and You Tube live, there is no doubt that live content will dominate in 2020. In fact, viewing hours of live content rose by 65% in the past 2 years.

4.    Less fake news in 2020:

Twitter banned political ads in 2019, and many will follow it in 2020. As well as the increase of regulations and fact-checking will decrease the amount of fake news on social media.

5.    Social media platforms will be less harmful in 2020:

With platforms like Facebook and Instagram getting rid of likes, and introducing new features to fight bullying, this will help make social media platforms less harmful in 2020.
